Matoño Lagoon
Currently in the process of recovery
The Matoño lagoon, named in honor of the founder of Chicaque, "Manuel Antonio Escobar Lozano"

Discover Matoño Lagoon
It is a small body of water fed by spring water that flows from the lower slopes of Pico del Águila (Eagle Peak).
For over 40 years, the lagoon suffered degradation due to traditional agriculture that eroded the surrounding hills, and later from livestock that entered the water itself, polluting and further eroding it, to the point of almost disappearing. Finally, in 2012, Chicaque acquired the property adjacent to the lagoon, securing the start of its restoration with the help of dozens of volunteers, in a continuous effort that lasted more than five years.
